Delta ditching Lyft to ride with Uber
Delta Air Lines is ending its SkyMiles loyalty program partnership with ride hailing service Lyft after eight years.
The airline is shifting to larger ride hailing rival Uber.
From the spring Delta SkyMiles members earn one mile per dollar spent on every UberX airport ride and two miles for every dollar on Uber Comfort and Uber Black.
They earn three miles per dollar on Uber Reserve trips and one mile per dollar on Uber Eats orders over $40.
“With a record number of travelers taking to the skies, we’re focused on helping to make your airport travel journey as efficient, affordable, and effortless as possible,” Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said.
Delta has expanded partnerships for earning and using frequent flyer miles via ground transportation partners like Hertz
Loyalty members can still earn miles through Lyft rides through April 7, Delta said.
“Customers with linked accounts will receive direct communication from Delta and Lyft in the coming days about the transition,” A Delta spokesperson said.
“We are appreciative of the partnership we’ve had with Lyft benefiting loyal customers who have collectively earned billions of miles.”
