Delta flight attendant assaulted during in-flight disturbance
Three people were injured and a Delta flight was forced to return to Seattle after an unruly passenger attacked a member of flight crew.
The incident took place in the first class cabin after Delta flight 129 took off on its way to Beijing.
Seattle Tacoma Airport spokesperson Perry Cooper said a man assaulted a flight attendant and it took several other passengers to restrain the individual.
The plane landed safely back at Sea-Tac where the man was taken into custody.
The flight attendant and a passenger were taken to hospital for unspecified injuries.
The suspect, aged 23 from Florida, was also injured but refused medical treatment.
Earlier reports suggested he attempted to force his way into the cockpit but this has now been discounted.
In a brief statement, Delta said: "The passenger was restrained on board and was removed from the flight by law enforcement without further incident."
The FBI is leading the investigation but do not believe it was a terror-related incident.
"The FBI’s investigation is ongoing and more details about the incident will be provided and the charges announced at the subject’s initial appearance in federal court," it said in a statement.
In another mid-air incident, a US Air Force F-15 fighter jet escorted a Sunwing flight back to Montreal after an ‘unruly customer making non-specific threats was taken into police custody,’ a Sunwing spokesman said.
The incident happened as it flew over New York State on the way to Cuba.
