Delta inks big Boeing 737 Max order
Delta is ordering 100 Boeing 737 Max 10 planes, has an option to purchase 30 more of the aircraft.
The deal is worth up to $13.5 billion.
It is a vote of confidence for the troubled Max jet and for the planemaker, which has struggled to keep up with Airbus.
Currently, Delta is the only major US airline not to fly any Max planes.
“Delta Air Lines will modernize its single-aisle fleet with the highly efficient 737 MAX to meet demand as well as its long-term sustainability goals,” a joint statement said.
“The Boeing 737-10 will be an important addition to Delta’s fleet as we shape a more sustainable future for air travel,” Delta boss Ed Bastian said.
“These new aircraft provide superior operating economics and network flexibility.”
Delta says the new airctaft would cut emissions by up to 30%.
In another boost for Boeing, Japanese airline ANA said it will purchase 20 of the smaller Max 8 jets worth $2.4 billion.
