Delta seeks soothing rate cuts
Delta Air Lines is standardizing and sometimes reducing fees to $50 for the most frequently requested travel services.
The airline is also changing how customers can qualify for elite status and perks.
“The No. 1 area of complaint has been our change fee and other fee policies, and this should help alleviate that,” said Paul Matsen, senior vice president and chief marketing officer.
Most fees are now $50.
Domestic ticket change fees within the 48 contiguous United States have been reduced from $100 to $50.
SkyMiles reissue/date changes are also reduced from $100 to a $50 fee, while SkyChoice awards and wait-listed award reservations may be changed without a fee. The fee for an unaccompanied minor traveling on a nonstop flight is now $50 each way, versus $40 or $75 before.
The traveling-with-a-pet fee is now $50 each way versus $75 in the past.
Those changes and various others are effective immediately.
