Demand for Fiji high

The Chairman of Fiji’s Tourism Action Group Damend Gounder says that the results coming in after the first phase of marketing campaign show that there is still a great demand for destination Fiji in Australia and New Zealand.

He said that TAG has been advising Fiji’s source markets that despite the political events, Fiji is still beautiful and as friendly as ever and the focus has been on the need to mobilise efforts with other tourism related businesses into rebuilding the industry, adding that through TAG’s efforts, airlines slashed airfares to Fiji by 40%, while hotel and resorts promoted lucrative and attractive accommodation packages.

Mr Gounder added, “We are happy with the type of results we are currently receiving, having launched our first phase of programmes in Australia and New Zealand on the 2nd and 14th of January”.

He also said, “Results coming in show the demand for destination Fiji,” although despite the show of promise the numbers are not enough to take Fiji to the levels that they really want.

The second phase of the campaign should begin this week in other markets like North America, UK and the rest of Europe.

Mr Gounder said extra funds are needed this year to gain favourable tourism arrivals.
