Disney Cruises go upscale with port adventures
Disney Cruise Line is kicking off its summer season with a Signature Collection of port adventures in the Mediterranean.
Designed to bring families "authentic cultural experiences with distinctly Disney storytelling," Signature Collection Port Adventures bring small groups of guests deluxe experiences in upscale settings, and customized tours enhanced with exclusive activities.
Beginning June 1, 2013, the Disney Magic will sail a total of 12 cruises from Barcelona to the Mediterranean. The brand-new Signature Collection Port Adventures they offer include trips in Venice, Athens, the Greek Isles, Turkey, Croatia, and Rome.
In Venice, for example, Signature Collection guests can get a private, after-hours tour of the Doge’s Palace, and a reception with Disney princesses, live musicians, and royal courtiers in period costumes and powdered wigs. Or they can choose to be a Gondolier for a Day and pilot a gondola on the city’s lagoon.
In Kusadasi, Turkey, families can join an adventure-seeking "archeologist" guide, helping him decode clues on a quest to find the missing piece of an ancient tablet as they tour the Ephesus archaeological site.
On the coast of Croatia, guests can sign up for a demonstration of the ancient process of cultivating silk worms and processing silk threads, and then make their own keepsake craft.
And in Rome, adults can learn how to create mosaics from a local artist.
