Disney parks attendance down in 2016
Walt Disney Co saw a slight dip in attendance at its two main theme park locations last year.
In fact all its parks with the exception of the newly opened Shanghai Disneyland saw a slight decrease in visitation.
US park attendance was down by about 1% according to the Global Attractions Attendance Report by AECOM and the Themed Entertainment Association.
"Following record-setting numbers in 2015, attendance results in 2016 were more modest but still reflective of a healthy, growing industry," said John Robinett, AECOM SVP of economics.
Despite this revenue was up about 5% on higher ticket prices.
Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom in Orlando still led the way in terms of overall attendance with more than 20.3 million visitors last year.
Epcot, Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios were also in the global top 10 most visited parks.
Overseas the largest falls were recorded at the Paris and Hong Kong parks which both saw double digit declines.
"It’s really capital expenditures that move the needle. It’s also important to remember that 2015 was a tremendous year," Robinett said.
