Disney pulls all-nighters for Memorial Day weekend
Disney will be pulling an all-nighter on Memorial Day Weekend, keeping three of its US parks open for 24 hours straight.
Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World in Florida, and Disneyland and Disney California Adventure in California, will be open 6 a.m. May 24 to 6 a.m. May 25, to kick off the summer season and promote Disney•Pixar’s new film Monsters University.
Mike and Sulley from the film will be on hand to hang out and take pictures with guests, and to march in the parades.
There will be extra entertainment, live bands, characters in their pajamas, and, of course, limited-edition merchandise.
Also new at Disney is the my disney experience app for most smartphones.
The app allows you to check on wait times, show times for fireworks and parades, and find characters’ locations. You can share your plans with friends and relatives.
The app is one component of a larger plan called my disney magic, where wristbands will soon connect to the plans customers make on the app.
The wristband will be a room key, a virtual park ticket, and a key to the fast pass, photo pass, and optional payment systems.
Disney already has started converting doorknobs to touch points and replacing turnstiles at the park entrances in anticipation of the new technology.
