Disney updates hotel room security policy
Walt Disney World is changing hotel room security policy at some resorts.
The small but significant change will see the scrapping of the ‘Do Not Disturb’ signs, which will instead be replaced with ‘Room Occupied.’
The changes have been made in light of the mass shooting from a Las Vegas hotel, when a gunman killed 58 people at a country music festival opposite the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino on the Las Vegas Strip.
The gunman, Stephen Paddock, spent several days in his hotel suite with a huge arsenal of weapons.
The changes will start at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Polynesian Village Resort and Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, with others to likely follow in the coming weeks.
A hotel employee will be required to enter the room at least once every day, even when housekeeping isn’t required.
Disney’s guest information pack explains: "The hotel and its staff reserve the right to enter your room for any purposes including, but not limited to, performing maintenance and repairs or checking on the safety and security of guests and property."
