Do road works affect your business?
I’ve just had a reporter from the local paper (Kent and Sussex Courier)on the phone to ask me if the roadworks we’ve had in our village for the last 6 weeks have affected our trade in any way!
With most of the road closed, and no parking anywhere in the village except the too small free car park, the village has been almost totally deserted. The local Post Office says that their business for August was down 35%, and ours would have been affected about the same. How can we get the public to support out of town shops if the local authority (who charge us high business rates) do not make sure that repairs to services (gas, electricity, water and phones – all of which have done work in the past year) do not affect our trade so much by staggering the closure of local roads and parking areas.
