Dominican Republic extends free Covid insurance for all travelers
The Dominican Republic is extending its free travel insurance program for several more months.
The health plan was introduced earlier this year and was set to expire in the new year.
It will now be valid for all travelers until 30 April.
The free covers medical emergencies, ambulatory care, the cost of medicines, flight change fees and lodging expenses due to an extended stay because of a Covid infection.
"The free traveler assistance plan has proven to be a success, as it has helped position us as a safe destination," said David Collado, Tourism Minister.
"The Dominican government is committed to the reactivation of our tourism industry in an efficient and responsible manner."
It is applicable for travelers flying commercially and staying at recognized hotels and resorts.
Cover becomes effective automatically on check-in at the accommodation.
Entry conditions are some of the most relaxed in the region.
There are no mandatory tests required or quarantine, although random testing is carried out on a up to 5% of arriving visitors.
