Dominican Republic investing $30 million to draw more visitors
The government of the Dominican Republic is setting aside $30 million for improvements, much of it earmarked to upgrade the beach areas.
Popular Long Beach, for example, is being lengthened by about one mile.
Other beaches are also getting new amenities.
Said Minister of Tourism Felix Jimenez:
“The increase in quality beachfront in Puerto Plata has allowed us to re-zone, thereby maximizing its use for tourism.”
A new dock is being built that will offer restaurants, bars and other amenities for tourists. A new amphitheater is also being built.
The Dominican Republic’s first tourist was Christopher Columbus in 1492. Since then, it has been known for being the highest point in the Caribbean at 10,000 feet. For visitors, it’s perhaps best known for its golf courses and the largest marina in the Caribbean.
