The number of tourists visiting Dubai as part of a cruise is forecast to rise by almost a quarter this year to 260,817.
The increase over 2008 is set to grow further next year as the emirate is expected to host 99 ships and more than 383,000 passengers.
This will be helped by the opening of the new Dubai Cruise Terminal at the end of the year and Royal Caribbean International joining Costa Cruises in sailing from the destination.
In the first quarter of the year there were 90,442 cruise tourists arriving in Dubai, mostly from the UK, the US and Europe on board 51 ships.
Dubai Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) is taking the platform as ‘Business Breakout Sponsor’ at this week’s UK Cruise Convention in Dover.
The new cruise terminal will be the only one in the world operated by a government department of tourism which means it can provide extra attention to every visitor and enhance the experience including certified tour guides and a swift entry system with no visa issues for visitors, according to the DTCM
UK and Ireland director Ian Scott said: “Cruise visitors are becoming an increasingly important part of Dubai’s tourism industry and with Dubai Cruise Terminal fully open for business by the end of the year it looks to grow further.“
We are delighted to be involved with the UK Cruise Convention and honoured that the World Travel Awards have recognised the budding cruise industry in Dubai.”
