Dynamic packaging a hot topic
A leading industry concern, as discussed in the recent RexExpo technology conference, is dynamic packaging. Said Vicki Singer: “Each sector of the travel industry has some specific needs, but certainly there was a lot of talk about dynamic packaging, or packaging for suppliers. We had a very large hospitality contingency this year and, of course, tour operators want to know about dynamic packaging.” Ms Singer is president and CEO of Travel Technology Source, a consulting company specializing in technology that sponsors the yearly ResExpo, which drew about 300 attendees in March to Dallas. Ms Singer says true dynamic packaging means pulling from various sources and putting it all together. “That takes some pretty sophisticated technology tools,” she said. Another much-discussed topic at the convention: GDS. “CRM’s are also very, very important, but some folks interested in them haven’t taken the next step to incorporate them into their latest technology,” said Ms Singer. Overall, travel industry people are feeling better about the improved economy and rising levels of travel, she said. “I think the entire industry is on the cusp of repositioning itself and evolving into the next level of technology,” she said. “That may be next year’s hot topic.” The next Res-Expo will be held in March with a location announced later. –Report by David Wilkening–
