Earthquake kills at least five
An earthquake measuring 6.7 magnitude has hit north east India killing at least five people.
The quake, which happened late last night UK time, hit about 29km north west of Imphal, near India’s borders with Myanmar (formerly Burma) and Bangladesh.
At least five people have been killed in Manipur and more than 30 injured, the Press Trust of India news agency reported although Reuters have reported at least nine fatalities.
The BBC said that numerous buildings were affected as well as a newly-built six-storey high rise collapsing in Imphal.
