Friday, 27 Mar, 2026 0

Holidaymakers are being warned there could be pain in Spain this Easter holiday.

Strikes by airport ground staff are expected to hit flight operations during the holiday period, with disruption starting from today.

As many as a dozen airports across Spain could be impacted.

Industrial action has been called by three unions for short walkouts on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays with specific time slots.

Additionally, several one-day strikes are planned by other workers on 28-29 March, and from 2-6 April.

It is expected to see Menzies Group workers and employees of Groundforce down tools.

Airport operations that could be affected include check-in and boarding, baggage handling passenger assistance and refuelling.

Strike action would affect the airports of Madrid-Barajas, Alicante, Barcelona-El Prat, Bilbao, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Ibiza, Lanzarote, Málaga, Palma de Mallorca and the two Tenerife airports.

It comes as the EES Entry Exit System is set to officially roll out fully across the Euro zone in just a few days.
