easyJet expands Scottish routes

Three new routes are being added by easyJet from Edinburgh next year.

Daily flights to Milan and Madrid plus a twice-weekly Palma service will bring the airline’s network from the Scottish airport up to 12 routes.

Frequency to Amsterdam is also being raised to two flights a day as part of an overall capacity boost of 10%.

The announcement follows the airline unveiling plans to operate daily flights to Munich from April 4 and will mean a fourth aircraft being based at Edinburgh.

The daily Edinburgh-Madrid service that commences on February 25 followed by Milan on May 21 come as a result of investment from the Scottish Executive, in the form of a route development fund to support new direct air links. EasyJet will also gain marketing support from VisitScotland to help promote Scotland as a destination in Spain and Italy. Single fares to the Spanish capital start at £31.99 and £27.99 to Milan.

The Palma, Majorca service starts on May 5, rising to twice a week from June 10 with single fares starting at £31.99.

The carrier’s UK general manager David Osbourne said: “We expect the new routes to Madrid, Milan, Munich and Palma to attract not only outbound leisure passengers and boost incoming tourism to the region, but will also help Scotland develop its business links with these key European business centres.”
