EasyJet signs deal to fly MPs and Peers
EasyJet has signed a deal to offer low cost flexible fares to MPs which it claims will save taxpayers’ money.
The year-long preferred partnership deal with Hillgate Travel, the travel management company for the Houses of Parliament, comes into effect today.
It will provide low cost fares for MPs as well as providing support for MPs’ constituency and Commons Select Committee’s travel arrangements and will be open for all MPs, Peers and Houses of Parliament staff.
Carolyn McCall, chief executive of easyJet, said: "We know that many MPs, Peers and Government ministers already fly with easyJet. This deal will make it easier and more cost effective than ever before.
"This deal is a good example of easyJet’s strategy of increasing the number of business travellers flying with the airline. Over 9.5 million business travellers fly with easyJet each year."
In August 2011, when Parliament was recalled due to the London riots, easyJet says it flew more than 80 MPs, at no cost to the taxpayer, back to the UK in order to attend an emergency debate in the House of Commons.
