EasyJet to open new European base
EasyJet is to open its 25th European base in Oporto next spring, creating 80 pilot and cabin crew jobs.
The budget airline has operated flights in Portugal since 1999 and has carried over 3.8 million passengers over the last 12 months, including almost 800,000 to and from Porto’s Francisco de Sa Carneiro airport.
It also serves Faro and Funchal airports and opened a base at Lisbon Portela airport in 2012.
The airline’s country director Javier Gandara said: "We are delighted to announce a second Portuguese base from Spring 2015 which will connect the North of Portugal with Europe.
Porto mayor Rui Moreira said: "For Oporto, the installation of a base of a prestigious airline such as easyJet is also proof that the tourism and economic dynamics of the city are not just a trend, but that we are already a consolidated tourism destination where investment continues to make sense."
