Edinburgh and Glasgow Named in top 5 UK cities Gleneagles Named Top Spa
Edinburgh and Glasgow have both been named among the top five cities in the UK in a prestigious travel poll for the fourth year in a row. The Spa at Gleneagles was also named as the top spa in the UK.
The capital was voted second and Glasgow made it into fifth place in this year’s Condé Nast Traveller survey.
Both cities have made it into the top ten since the awards began in 1998. Edinburgh’s topped the coveted list three times in the past 10 years followed closely by Glasgow which has taken the top prize twice.
The awards were announced at a ceremony in London. Other UK cities in the top five include London which took top place this year. Liverpool and Durham also made it into the top five.
Philip Riddle, VisitScotland’s Chief Executive said: “Conde Naste is one of our most prestigious travel magazines, and it is fantastic for our two biggest cities to be recognised in this way. It is also great to see Gleneagles one of our premier hotel resorts receiving an award.
“This is an exciting time for Scottish tourism as we work towards the year of Homecoming next year and this success just goes to show the quality of experience visitors can have in Scotland. Everyone involved in tourism in Edinburgh and Glasgow and the hard working staff at Gleneagles should be justly proud of their achievements.â€
Sarah Miller is the Editor of Condé Nast Traveller magazine. She said: “I’m absolutely delighted to see Edinburgh and Glasgow in the top five – particularly Edinburgh, which came second. This is a great accolade for such a beautiful city. It also scored incredibly highly for entertainment and its range of wonderful accommodation – surely the best incentive for any visitor. Glasgow too scored well for entertainment but really wowed our readers with the friendliness of the inhabitants – clearly our readers feel very welcome when they visit.â€
