Edinburgh International Festival 2007

Sunday, 28 Jun, 2007 0

Festival season has arrived in Europe, with festivals of all kinds are vying for your attention, but the one which just about everyone aims to get to – at least once in their life – is the Edinburgh Festival, long considered one of the most important in the world.

This year’s Edinburgh International Festival hosts a real feast of opera, theatre, dance and classical concerts with contributors representing a fascinating medley of true world-class talent – you would expect no less, of course.

The area that regularly causes concern is accommodation – it can often feel like a lost cause even trying to find somewhere to stay.

For the second year, at the request of the Festival, Theatre Breaks has packaged various performances with accommodation from just £79 sterling per person and there are new additions to last year’s Apex City Hotels.

The University of Edinburgh accommodation centre with new en suite and standard rooms, and the purpose-built five-star quality Smart City Hostel (all rooms en suite) are now available, conveniently located for Festival venues, giving greater freedom to explore the city between performances.

In addition rail travel – including sleeper berths from London – can also be arranged.

So, what’s on the menu?

There are packages at various levels, with accommodation to suit all pockets, for lovers of ballet, dance and theatre as well as opera and classical music.

For example…….

THE BIG ONE: An irresistible 3 Night feast of opera (10-12 August) including tickets for The Opening Concert, Candide by Leonard Bernstein on the Friday, followed by Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo (sung in Italian with English supertitles) on Saturday.

Then on Sunday there’s Orlando Furioso by Vivaldi (concert performance sung in Italian).

A three night stay (Fri-Sun) to include all three operas and accommodation at The University of Edinburgh will total £319 sterling.

or

The Small One: For only £79 sterling per person you can enjoy a choice of classical concerts in the renowned Usher Hall and stay at the purpose-built five-star quality Smart City Hostel.
