Egypt: latest FCO advice
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has stopped short of saying that British travellers should not visit Egypt, following last week’s hotel bomb blasts that killed dozens of people. As reported, there were simultaneous blasts at three separate locations in Egypt last week, with the main one being at the Hilton Hotel in the resort of Taba. The Sunday Times quotes the FCO as saying: “There is a threat of terrorism but Egypt’s security forces have made considerable efforts to ensure the safety of foreign visitors. They maintain a uniformed presence at most tourist sites and police make regular searches.” The newspaper also quoted the Federation of Tour Operators as saying: “The Foreign Office has to be out touchstone. We will be continuing discussions with it over the next few days, but at the moment, normal booking conditions apply. Those due to travel should discuss any concerns with their travel agent or tour operator.” Report by Tim Gillett, News From Abroad Ltd
