Egypt reassures visitors over Embassy closure
Egypt tourism officials are reassuring British holidaymakers that they should continue with their plans to visit the country, even though the UK Embassy in Cairo has been closed.
It has issued a statement after concerns from travellers since the Embassy announced its closure.
"Travel advisories issued by the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) remain unchanged since recommendations against travel in certain regions were lifted in November" said Omayma El Husseini, director UK & Ireland, Egyptian Tourist Authority.
"Travellers to Cairo and surrounding areas are advised only to take normal travel precautions."
The FCO has advised that operations at the Embassy will resume as soon as possible and that British nationals in Egypt requiring consular assistance should phone 022 791 6000.
"As always, we will continue to take all measures to ensure the safety of visitors to Egypt and will advise should there be any changes to the current situation," added El Husseini.
