Egyptian hostages in death threat
An Egyptian kidnapper is threatening to kill two American tourists he kidnapped at gunpoint on Friday.
The Egyption Bedouin is calling for the release of his uncle from prison and is holding Pastor Michel Louis, 61, and Lisa Alphonse, 39, from Boston, Massachusetts, captive in a remote area of the Sinai desert.
The two Americans were abducted in daylight when kidnapper Abu-Masuh stopped the tour bus they were in with dozens of other tourists along a major road outside Cairo.
The tour guide is also being held hostage.
The tourists had been travelling to the sixth-century St. Catherine’s Monastery, located at the foot of Mount Sinai.
The Sinai area has become increasingly lawless and other kidnaps in the last year have been attributed to Bedouin tribesmen.
Two American tourists were freed unharmed days after they were kidnapped in the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt, in May.
