Eighteen injured in New York airport fire
Four people were taken to hospital and a further 14 were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation following a fire at New York’s JFK airport last night.
The Fire Department said the blaze broke out at Lufthansa’s cargo building but was put out within half an hour.
The fire was discovered underneath dock 5 at the cargo building but there was no disruption to air traffic in and out of the airport.
Initial reports said that the blaze was caused by a chemical leak, however this was eventually identified as a separate spillage of a fragrance-like liquid, said a Port Authority spokesman.
