Elvis soon will rock in Europe’s Eastern Bloc

North Americans traveling to Europe in the future can skip Russian Borsch or Polish sausages and opt for good old-fashioned, familiar fried peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

That’s because the Memphis-based Elvis Presley Enterprises Inc. has announced it will begin more themed restaurants in Eastern and Central Europe.

“The concept, called Elvis American Diner will have decor inspired by Memphis’ most famous native," according to the Memphis Business Journal.

The decor, artwork, food selections and music will present a uniquely “American” dining experience, according to a company release.

Two “Elvis American Diner” restaurants are currently in operation in Tbilisi, the capital city of Eastern European nation Georgia.

Each restaurant serves hamburgers, deli sandwiches, New York Pizza, hand scooped ice-cream and other menu items.

EAD restaurants have a counter where customers can watch most of the grilled, stir-fried or oven baked foods being prepared.

Company officials say consumers in parts of Europe missed much of the popular culture during Elvis’ career, and this is a chance to make up for it.

The restaurant management company is considering restaurant locations in Albania, Macedonia, Serbia, Georgia, Lithuania, Latvia, Ukraine, Hungary, Slovakia, Poland, Czech Republic, Romania, Greece, Turkey and Russia.
