Emirates A380 makes emergency landing
An Emirates A380 has made an emergency landing in Sri Lanka after pilots detected smoke in the cockpit.
Fire crews and paramedics were on standby when the super-jumbo landed at Colombo Airport on Friday, but no one was hurt.
All 471 passengers and 30 crew disembarked safely and passengers were transferred to other Emirates flights.
The airline confirmed in a statement that the plane had been diverted due to a ‘technical fault’.
"Emirates apologises for any inconvenience. The safety of our passengers and crew is of paramount importance," it said.
Emirates flight EK413 had been en route from Sydney to Dubai.
An investigation is now underway.
