Emirates cancels major aircraft order
Emirates has reportedly cancelled its entire purchase of 70 Airbus A350 aircraft, dealing a blow to the plane manufacturer and engine-maker Rolls-Royce.
Airbus said it followed a review by Emirates, which has shifted towards the larger A380 instead.
Dubai-based Emirates was among the first buyers for the A350, which rivals Boeing’s 787 Dreamliner, when it placed its $16 billion order in 2007.
However, Airbus said Emirates decision to cancel its order would not impact is programme as deliveries were not scheduled to start until 2019. It said it was confident it would re-sell the production slots.
Qatar Airways will take delivery of the first A350 in the fourth quarter of this year.
