End to Iberia strikes in sight
Union leaders are today expected to agree to a deal to end industrial action at British Airways’ sister airline Iberia.
The main unions representing the Spanish carrier’s ground staff said yesterday that they had agreed in principle to accept proposals put forward by a Spanish government-appointed mediator and they were confident they would be passed at a union meeting today.
Iberia’s board of directors has already accepted the proposals, which will reduce the number of redundancies from a planned 3,807 to 3,141 and mean a higher level of redundancy payment to those workers who are laid off.
Iberia has suffered two five-day strikes by workers since bosses announced the job cuts. Unions had been planning further strikes this month.
