Erotic fiction tops hotel bedtime reading

The three books in the raunchy Fifty Shades trilogy are among those most left behind in hotel rooms.

According to the 2013 Travelodge ‘books left behind index’, the first in the trilogy, Fifty Shades of Grey, is at number six, while the second, Fifty Shades Darker, is at number 10.

The third, Freed, tops the list of books left behind so far this year.

It is the second time Fifty Shades author E L James has topped the chart.

The Fifty Shades books have created an appetite for erotic romance literature among Travelodge guests, as four other raunchy reads also make the top 10.

The first book from Sylvia Day’s award-winning Crossfire trilogy, Bared to You, is second in the chart; the second instalment, Reflected in You is seventh and the third, Entwined with You, is ninth.

The Marriage Bargain, the first book in the Billionaire trilogy of erotic romance novels, by Jennifer Probst is the third most popular book to be left behind in Travelodge hotels.

The second and third books in the trilogy, The Marriage Trap and The Marriage Mistake, both came outside the top 10, at 12th and 16th position respectively.

Completing the top 10 list are: thriller novel Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn in fourth; JK Rowling’s The Casual Vacancy at number five and Sir Bradley Wiggins’ autobiography, My Time, in eighth place.
