Etihad plane diverted in suspected bomb threat
A suspected bomb threat forced an Etihad Airways flight from Cairo to Abu Dhabi to be diverted to a military base in Dubai on Sunday.
The airline confirmed the A321 was diverted after it received a security alert.
Although officials gave no further details about the nature of the alert, the Saudi-owned al-Arabiya TV channel said it was a bomb threat.
The 128 passengers and seven crew disembarked at the al-Minhad air base, where passengers were security screened and the aircraft was searched by security officials.
The airline later tweeted that ‘nothing of a suspicious nature was found’.
It said passengers on flight EY650 were then transferred by coach to Abu Dhabi.
Last week, an Air Arabia flight from Kuwait to Sharjah was diverted to the same Dubai base after a passenger claimed the aircraft would explode.
It turned out to be a false alarm.
