Eurostar on track for record punctuality
High speed train service Eurostar has recorded its best punctuality figures in its 10-year history.
The service, which links London and Ashford with various points in France and Belgium, claimed that during the week beginning July 12, 97.3 per cent of its scheduled trains arrived on time or early. On three days the trains reported 100 per cent punctuality.
Competitor airlines on London-Paris and London-Brussels routes average 77 per cent punctuality, according to figures supplied by the Civil Aviation Authority.
Eurostar has steadly improved its punctuality since the opening of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link last September and the performance has paid off with an increase in passengers. Recent half-year results show it carried 3.4 million people during the first six months of 2004 – an increase of 19 per cent over the same period last year.
A spokesman for Eurostar said: “Our customers are experiencing seamless city-centre to city-centre journeys without the worry of airport delays. This is a record that passengers and staff can be justly proud of.”
