Ex Bali tourism chief charged
The former head of the Bali Tourism Office, Gede Nurjaya, has been formally named as a defendant charged with misappropriating tourism promotion funds totaling Rp. 97 million (US$10,800).
Bali Update has reported that the charges were read at the Denpasar District Court last week where the public prosecutor, traced the case back to the promotion of Bali at World Travel Mart (WTM) in London in November 2008.
It is alleged that Nurjaya sought and received funds for WTM from the provincial government for WTM expenses already paid for by central government.
The prosecutor said, â€The reality is that the stand rental of Rp. 120,804,000 was never paid by the Bali Tourism Office, because that expense was paid by the Department of Culture and Tourism (central government).”
