Expedia agrees deal with Air France KLM to waive GDS surcharge
Expedia Group has confirmed today that its leisure and corporate customers in the UK will no longer have to pay a new GDS surcharge for bookings made with Air France KLM.
The €11 per flight fee was introduced by the airlines on April 1 for all bookings sourced through global distribution systems.
However, Expedia said it has reached a deal with Air France, KLM and Hop! to waive the fee for bookings made with Expedia, ebookers and the travel management company Egencia in all European markets.
At the same time, Expedia Group and Air France KLM, together with its selected GDS partners, have committed to collaborate on the integration of new distribution capabilities, a technology developed by IATA to save airlines money.
Air France KLM’s new GDS surcharge is roughly in line with Lufthansa’s, which was introduced in 2015, and British Airways and Iberia fees, introduced last November.
