Explosion in central Athens
The Foreign Office is urging visitors to Athens to remain vigilant following a small explosion in the city centre early this morning.
A guard was wounded when unidentified attackers on a motorbike threw what appears to have been a hand grenade at the French embassy, said police.
The building suffered only minor damage to the exterior and the guard is not thought to have been seriously injured. The area around the building, which is opposite parliament, has been cordoned off.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, which happened at around 5am this morning.
