FAA probes near collision between Delta planes
An alert air traffic controller took evasive action to stop a possible on-ground collision at New York JFK Airport.
A just landed Delta flight crossed runway 22 as a second Delta plane was preparing to takeoff.
The planes were about 6,400 feet apart when Delta Flight 300 crossed the runway.
The controller intervened quickly and stopped Flight 253’s takeoff attempt.
The errant plane had landed from Sint Maarten and then taxied to the gate as normal.
From recordings of ATC audio it seems Delta Flight 300’s pilot failed to hold its position as per ATC instructions.
"We are currently investigating details of our JFK flight movements," Delta said.
