False alarm ‘hijack’ scare om easyJet flight
British holidaymakers just experienced a dramatic start to their Mallorca holiday.
Their easyJet flight from Birmingham touched down and was immediately surrounded by armed Police and the Civil Guard.
This was due to a cockpit hijack alert activated ‘by mistake.’
The operation is normal protocol for such alerts.
The aircraft was escorted away from the terminal and inspected by armed officers.
The pilot was interviewed and confirmed it was a false alarm, activated in error.
It was apparently activated just as it was about to land.
Due to the incident the returning flight back to Birmingham was delayed by about 90 minutes.
