Fast-growing Boston Green Tourism fostering environmental visitors
The one-year-old Boston Green Tourism (BGT) says it is working to position that city as the place to go to find green hotels and meeting facilities.
The organization has 76 active members that include hoteliers, vendors, convention and government officials.
Goals include:
Establish Boston as the preeminent destination for environmentally-minded visitors by complementing the area’s beauty, natural resources and outdoor recreation with environmentally-friendly visitor services.
Boost the area’s convention and tourism business by promoting Boston’s unique environmental advantages and accomplishments.
Protect the environment by improving the performance of the local visitor industry and modeling its achievements for others to copy.
Showcase the environmental best practices adopted by Boston’s commercial and government institutions to the public and the media.
The Boston Convention & Exhibition Center has attracted at least one green event in 2008: the US Green Building Council’s Green Building conference, which will attract up to 15,000 delegates.
“Their new recycling program was an important component of their application,” said BGT is a news release.
Many delegates are expected to stay in the 37 area hotels that now participate in BGT. The organization gives out various environmental designations.
