Fatal fall at Sands Macau
MACAU: A 51-year-old man from Hebei has fallen to his death inside the Sands Macao casino.
Mark Brown, president of Sands Macao and the Venetian Macao Resort Hotel, confirmed that the case was being looked into by police, but would not respond to questions as to whether the victim had been chased through the casino by an alleged loan shark.
Speaking at a “Responsible Gaming Programme” press conference, Brown said: “Yes, he fell. We cannot say anything further, because this is under police investigation.”
As reported in local Macau media, the Public Security Police (PSP) initially said the gambler had committed suicide, but later classified his death as a “suspicious fall”, and that he was not alone toward the final minutes of his life.
The police have not yet disclosed how much money the man may have lost.
This is the second fatality at Sands since its opening in May 2004. The first was on December 22, 2004 when a gambler jumped off the 3rd floor after losing heavily.
