Faulty air-con depressurises Qantas cabin mid-air

Sunday, 25 Jan, 2011 0

Passengers travelling on a Qantas jet plunged 25,000ft after an air conditioning fault developed, forcing them to grab for their oxygen masks.

The Boeing 737-400 was making the hop from Adelaide to Melbourne when the incident occurred and crew had to reassure travellers as they continued their journey at just 10,000ft in a depressurised cabin.

But the 99 passengers and six crew landed safely. Qantas issued a statement saying there was never any safety issue for the passengers.

A spokesman for the airline said: “Emergency services, I believe, were on standby but were not required. Engineers are now assessing the aircraft.”
