Ferry firms fight for business customers
UK: Many cross-channel services now offering executive facilities
Ferry companies are aiming to win a bigger slice of the business market – and are offering price cuts and better services in order to do so, according to a report in The Times.
The newspaper states that one in five ferry passengers travel “for business reasons”, and that the major companies plying cross-Channel routes are trying hard to up this ratio.
Stena, for example, is claiming that its overnight services to the Netherlands can work out cheaper than flying, once overnight accommodation is taken into account. The company, along with P&O, has introduced club lounges with business services including laptop stations, telephones and fax machines.
A spokesman for Stena told the newspaper: “The advantages for ferry travel for business customers include comfort in your own car versus public transport and transfers to airports, cost, and on-board comfort in lounges, rather than having to put up with cramped conditions on planes.”
