Ferry services suspended after WWII bomb discovery
Wightlink ferry services from Portsmouth were suspended this morning after a WWII bomb was discovered in the harbour.
Gunwharf Quays and part of the city were closed from around 3am, according to local reports.
Wightlink services resumed its Portsmouth to Ryde catamaran service at around 8am, but its Portsmouth to Fishbourne car ferry service is operating on a ‘trip by trip’ basis.
A police spokesman said the unexploded ordnance had been located during an ongoing dredging operation to prepare for new Royal Navy aircraft carriers in Portsmouth Harbour.
