Festival time in Brisbane

Tuesday, 14 Jul, 2006 0

Brisbane will be buzzing from July 14 to 30 as its largest ever festival bursts into action around the city and suburbs.

Over 17 days the Brisbane Festival will feature more than 530 events in a packed program that includes theatre, dance, opera, circus, music, multimedia, comedy, cabaret, visual art, fringe theatre, conversation, political satire ? and more.

Another notable feature will be a world forum for resource management and sustainable development, chaired by former Soviet President and Chair of Green Cross International Mikhail Gorbachev.

Brisbane Festival 2006 also takes to the suburbs. Over each of the three weekends of the festival there will be 10 ten free event locations across the city, each one reflecting the culture of that community.

The Festival will commence at 6.30pm on Friday, July 14 with an Indigenous Welcome and Smoking Ceremony at Brisbane Powerhouse Plaza. Indigenous performers and storytellers will pay respect to the traditional owners and ancestors.

This will be followed by the world premiere of the stage adaptation of David Malouf’s iconic story “Johno”.
