The upcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup will generate than $21 million into the New South Wales’ visitor economy, Destination NSW says.

More than 1.1 million tickets have been sold for the FIFA Women’s World Cup, but its benefits to the NSW visitor economy go well beyond ticket sales.

The tournament, from 20 July to 20 August 2023, is estimated to bring more than 16,000 visitors to Sydney.

Destination NSW has secured 11 matches for Sydney, including the final.

This is the most of any host city.

Stadium Australia will kick start the tournament with the Matildas’ opening match against the Republic of Ireland on 20 July.

NSW Minister for Jobs and Tourism John Graham said: “The FIFA Women’s World Cup will help grow the state’s visitor economy and create jobs.”

“This tournament has the potential to be one of the biggest sporting events in Sydney since the 2000 Olympics.”

Greater Sydney hosts four training sites used by national teams.

“Destination NSW’s investment in sporting, cultural and business events positions Sydney and NSW as the events capital of Asia Pacific,” said Destination NSW CEO Steve Cox.
