Fiji Airways upgrading San Francisco route to year-round service

Citing growing demand, Fiji Airways is adding capacity to San Francisco to year-round service.

Launched less than a year ago, the seasonal service will go year-round with the same two flights a week but will also add an extra weekly flight during peak demand from June to August and again in December.

"Our expansion out of SFO represents our position as the premier carrier for Fiji and the South Pacific, as well as being a gateway carrier to Australia and New Zealand," said Fiji Airways CEO Andre Viljoen.

The 10-hour flight is operated by A330 aircraft.

"We are thrilled that Fiji Airways has chosen SFO for expanded year-round service. This move validates the strong market for nonstop flights between San Francisco and Fiji," said SFO airport director Ivar C. Satero.

The carrier also flies year round to Los Angeles.

It has an existing codeshare agreement with American Airlines for onward connections at both San Francisco and Los Angeles.
