Finnair to fly nonstop to Miami
Finnair will start nonstop winter services to Miami later this year from Helsinki, with twice-weekly flights on Airbus A340 aircraft.
The 11-hour flight will commence on December 16 and operate on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Frequency will be added starting from January 3, 2015 with an extra flight on Saturdays.
According to Finnair CEO Pekka Vauramo, there is high demand for flights to Miami, especially during winter months.
"Services to Miami with codeshare partners have always been popular, and the time is now right to offer a direct non-stop route in the winter season in addition to these services. Finns love Miami and southern Florida, and there is a sizeable Finnish expatriate community in the region," he said.
Vauramo also said he hoped the service will give the inbound tourism sector a boost, promoting Finland and Lapland as a unique winter destination for American visitors.
The route will be part of the transatlantic agreement Finnair has with its Oneworld Alliance partners American Airlines, Iberia and British Airways.
