Fire destroys Cornwall hotel
An investigation is due to start today into a major fire which destroyed the Best Western Falmouth Beach Hotel in Cornwall.
About 30 people were moved to safety as 100 firefighters tackled the blaze yesterday afternoon.
According to the BBC, one of the guests was Blur guitarist Graham Coxon, who was performing at the town’s Princess Pavilion later that night.
It took firefighters more than seven hours to bring the fire under control. The roof of the hotel collapsed but there were no reports of injuries.
Three guests, who were believed to have gone out on day trips, are still unaccounted for but police say there is nothing to suggest they might have come to harm in the fire. They are appealing for the guests to make contact.
The 120-bedroom hotel, which is one of the biggest in the town, was opened in 1984.
The neighbouring St Michael’s Hotel was also evacuated.
Falmouth is one of the towns due to welcome the Olympic Torch on the first day of its relay throughout the UK.
