Fire, rail cancellations cause Stansted Airport disruption
Air travellers heading to London Stansted Airport have been warned of some disruption today due to train signaling issues.
A signalling system malfunction has knocked out rail services to and from London Liverpool Street and CrossCountry services from Birmingham New Street
There were also early morning delays on the M11 and M25 in Essex.
Additionally, an early morning fire in the airport’s Escape Lounge caused a partial evacuation and the closure of security screening.
It was a small fire and extinguished quite quickly but emitted a ‘significant amount of smoke.’
Terminal operations restarted a few hours later.
Passengers travelling this morning have been urged to check the status of their flights ahead of time.
