First American female captain named by Celebrity Cruises
Kate McCue has been named as captain of Celebrity Cruises’ Celebrity Summit and also the first American female captain at a major cruise line.
A graduate of the California Maritime Academy, the 37 year-old San Franciscan will captain the 91,000 ton ship on sailings between the eastern United States and Bermuda.
"Becoming the first female American captain of a cruise ship has been a goal of mine for as long as I can remember. The honour is amplified by being the first at a company like Celebrity Cruises," McCue said.
Captain Kate McCue takes the helm of the Summit in August 2015.
