First hotel group to win sustainable tourism award
Hampton Inn became the first ever hotel brand to receive the Sustainable Tourism Award presented by Smithsonian Magazine Travelers Conservation Foundation.
The award was in the preservation category.
Hampton was recognized for its Save-A-Landmark program, which saved 21 landmarks over the past five years in the US and Canada. The value of the properties was set at more than $1 million.
Hampton not only promoted the saving of landmark sites, but also enlisted many volunteers to work on the projects.
Hampton officials said its $20,000 cash prize will go to restore another landmark, which will be designated by a public vote.
